A hoodie is a sweatshirt with a hood and a pocket in front that was also called a kangaroo. The front can be either solid or zipped, and a drawstring can be inserted into the hood.
The word "Hoody" itself comes from the English word "hood" - and means a hood.
Catholic monks used to wear these clothes in cold weather, putting them on over their cassocks. However, in those days a hoodie could be worn by anyone who wanted to remain anonymous by putting a hood over his head when he met.
The first modern hoodie in the 1930s was launched by Champion Products, a sportswear company. Hooded sweaters were created so that athletes do not get too cold during exercise. This thing was quickly taken over by workers and employees of unheated warehouses.
Hip-hop became fashionable in America in the 1970s, and hoodies became the main clothes of rappers.
In the eighties, hoodies spread among board enthusiasts.
In the 1990s, designers began to add a sweatshirt to their collections, inspired by the New York street style. Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, and Tommy Hilfiger were among the first to create their own hoodies.
In 2014, Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia showed a collection in which hoodies, like other street clothes, were combined with dresses and couture shirts. At the same time Gosha Rubchinsky and Kanye West began to promote the "normcore" style. Hoody quickly became a global trend that many brands have adopted. Now hoodies are produced by luxury houses Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, Gucci, Celine, Dior, and influencers come up with new and unusual combinations.
Young people fell in love with loose clothing, wide trousers and cozy hoodies with a hood that even those people who were far from modern musical trends and frivolous lifestyles began to wear these things. All this is absolutely not surprising, because both women's and men's hoodies with a hood are very practical and fit well on any figure.
It’s hard to say why wearing a hoodie is not recommended: with classic things like a coat and midi skirts, and with sports such as trousers with stripes and down jackets, they can look equally good. The main thing is to observe proportions. Here the same rule applies as with other multi-layer images: it is better to wear under the hoodie what is thinner than it, and on top - what is more voluminous.
A hoodie is one of the things that has recently been cultivated and which designers recommend wearing not only with sweatpants or leggings, but also with printed dresses, vinyl skirts and wide silk trousers.
