ench word "knitwear" means "knit". Today it is customary to call knitwear a dense fabric or a product that is knitted on knitting machines or by hand from strong threads.
Knitwear differs from fabrics in its own plasticity, the ability to stretch quite strongly in any direction, subsequently returning to its original shape, it also practically does not wrinkle.
The use of a variety of knitting combinations allows you to create an almost endless number of types of knitted fabric. Sewing accessories and handicrafts used when working with knitted fabrics also add variety to the already wide range of these products.
Knitwear is an easily stretchable material. The threads that create the base are not simple weaving. Its main element is a loop. It is created from a broach and a skeleton. The canvas consists of looped posts and rows. The former are located vertically, the latter horizontally. In addition to the main components of weaving, additional elements can be involved. They are needed to connect links, reduce extensibility or create additional pile.
Knitwear is made from a variety of raw materials. Basically it is made from the following fibers: ✔️Cotton; ✔️ Woolen;
✔️Synthetic; ✔️Combined.
The combined option is considered the best. If there is only one material in the base, then the final product cannot meet all the requirements that the consumer would like to impose on it.
Knitted fabrics differing in composition are usually intended for a particular type of knitted garments. It is customary to distinguish between homogeneous or mixed knitwear, which depends on the number of raw materials used to create the knitted fabric. The overwhelming majority of modern types of knitwear are mixed, because the addition of synthetic fibers to the composition of natural yarn significantly improves consumer properties - crease resistance, elasticity, and attractive appearance.
The main types of knitted fabric
Knitted by modern knitting machines, knitted fabric resembles a fabric. Only now, instead of the traditional weaving of threads, loops are intertwined in such material. There are a couple of basic types of loops - purl and knit. Their various combinations create a huge number of different knitwear patterns.
According to the knitting method, it is customary to distinguish between double or single jersey. The first is knitted with two rows of a needle, the second, respectively, with one row. At the same time, double jersey does not automatically mean thick. Simply due to the use of two rows of needles, both sides of the fabric have a front pattern, besides, this type of knitwear stretches less, keeps its shape much better.
Knitted fabric is also classified according to the density of knitting and pattern, while each of the many types has its own purpose. Among single-layer thin types of knitwear, it is customary to distinguish the following:
➡️Azhur - a fabric characterized by a complex pattern, used in the manufacture of linen;
➡️Kulirka - most often done with the front satin stitch, used for sewing thin jumpers, turtlenecks;
➡️Waffle - a mesh fabric made from cotton, characterized by a honeycomb structure. It is used in the manufacture of most children's knitwear;
➡️Eraser - elastic knitwear made from synthetic fibers, dyed in a variety of colors. Light, bright summer clothes and linen are made from the eraser;
➡️ Velor - has a classic pattern and brushed surface. The area of use of this type of knitwear is extremely large - items for children, women, sports, menswear.
It is customary to refer to denser types of knitwear as a two-layer, brushed fabric or fleece fabric.
According to the knitting method, warp knitted (smooth fabric without patterns), kulirny or cross-knitted, double and embossed knitwear are distinguished.
Also, the knitted fabric can be plain or have a pattern, and both the threads used for knitting the fabric and the finished fabric on which the pattern is applied can be dyed
The main advantages of knitwear:
➡️ softness;

➡️A large number of different colors;
➡️extensibility and elasticity;
➡️ lack of stiffness during movement;
➡️ relatively low production cost;
➡️ pleasant tactile sensations;
➡️ strength of weaving and threads;
simple and easy maintenance;
